Dr. Ray (Rui) Kong holds a Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine. He is a licensed acupuncturist, and is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Dr. Kong was born into a family that has practiced Chinese medicine for over eight centuries. He is a descendant of Confucius and an eighth generation acupuncturist.

Under the direction of his mother and grandfather, who were prominent doctors, his acupuncture and Chinese medicine training started at an early age. When he was six, his mother (who practices both Western and Chinese medicine), began to teach him the medical basics, including acupuncture. As a teen he started practicing Chinese herbal medicine and Tui Na, along with acupuncture.

Dr. Kong has accumulated experience through professional study and many years of practice. He graduated from one of the most prestigious Oriental Medical Schools at Dongguk University. He has completed several hospital externship training and residency programs in China, South Korea, and the United States. Dr. Kong has dedicated himself to learning new acupuncture techniques and methods from well-known acupuncturists and also volunteering for community clinics.

With his solid foundation of both eastern and western medical disciplines, Dr. Kong has earned trust from many primary medical doctors at the St Joseph Mercy Hospital and the University of Michigan Hospital, who then routinely refer patients to him. Many doctors were amazed at the effectiveness of Dr. Kong’s acupuncture treatment and began to work with him, integrating eastern and western medical technique to achieve better results.

During his time practicing acupuncture in Ann Arbor, Dr. Kong has been a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan and has done a lot of work with the Athletic Department. Many athletes have been seeking regular acupuncture treatment from him to get relief from injuries and stresses, and their successful stories make Dr. Kong a regular invited guest to the many sport events and a true Michigan fan.
